Message from the artist

My name is Alexis Odjick, and I am an Algonquin Anishinaabe woman from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg in Quebec, Canada. My work and advocacy are deeply rooted in the teachings of my culture, where water is understood as sacred and essential to the wellbeing of our people and Mother Earth.

The beaded water drop pin was created as a symbol of the sacred relationship many Indigenous peoples have with water. In our cultures, water is life — it sustains our communities, nourishes Mother Earth, and supports future generations. This design represents both beauty and responsibility, reminding us that protecting water is a shared duty we all carry.

Partnering with Water First felt like a natural alignment because of the organization’s commitment to education, training, and sustainable solutions that empower communities to protect and steward their own water sources.
